This year, the 5th instalment our signature event the BGC Boardgame Retreat is going to be held at a nice concept resort known as The Kabin. With a blend of the new crop of games from this year's upcoming Essen Spiel and the wide selection available from the OTK Games Library, you can look forward to a weekend of awesome gaming! Winter is coming this Dec 19 & 20, so let's retreat to the Kabin for 2-days of intense Euro Board Gaming. Don't miss this...b.gif?host=blog.boardgamecafe.net&blog=1

An evening where we planned to ROLL THROUGH THE AGES ended up with two sessions of THROUGH THE AGES instead. Both (the rare) 1st Edition and (the erroneous) 2nd Edition were in play. Find out the future of THROUGH THE AGES in 2015. This completes a trilogy of gaming sessions that started with Rahdo’s Top Ten Heaviest Games and ended with Vlaada’s Thru the Ages.b.gif?host=blog.boardgamecafe.net&blog=1

The Kazzies! Part Deux

It’s my second and final (awwwwww…) installment of the Kazzies! My one of a kind awards given out to the standouts at Essen Spiel 2014. If you missed part one, find it here: The Kazzies! Part One.  Let’s cut to the chase: “MISS OF THE YEAR” AWARD Lift it! – Per Gauding, Game Factory I […]b.gif?host=blog.boardgamecafe.net&blog=1

Essen Spiel 2014 was a blast! It was my second year at the fair and that worked out well for me, as everything was familiar (most vendors were at their same location, halls were the same, etc.). Less awe, confusion and rushing around for stuff meant that I had more time for demos, to walk […]b.gif?host=blog.boardgamecafe.net&blog=1

Spiel 2014’s now done and dusted. While the Big Boys did not have as many new releases as we’d thought, as my buddy Kaz commented this gave the indie publishers – and they are growing not just in numbers but also influence – more opportunity to showcase their new titles. Which did happen. And we’ll […]b.gif?host=blog.boardgamecafe.net&blog=1

We’ve not been doing theme nights for awhile at OTK so we thought of going back to themes for this Friday. And one theme we’ve not done is FARMING. AGRICOLA likely comes to your mind first, however since most gamers would have been acquainted with that game, we thought of bringing out some lesser known “farm” theme games. Let’s walk thru OTK’s Farming Night and see why Ganja farms best for four. :Pb.gif?host=blog.boardgamecafe.net&blog=1

The 2nd part of Day Two showcased some interesting games which we are likely not going to see in M’sia such as L’AEROPOSTALE, WOOLF, ROMANCE OF NINE EMPIRES, TRAINS & STATIONS and a walk thru promising publishers from EU notably ARTIPIA & PORTAL.b.gif?host=blog.boardgamecafe.net&blog=1

The first part of our Day Two report covered mostly games from indie publishers with some notable ones being Drei Hasen in der Abendsonne (we liked their booth deco!), Dobutsu Shogi, Japon Brand that gave us Machi Karo, Jolly Thinkers, an OTK fave Cafe Melange, and Mike Hutton's 1862.b.gif?host=blog.boardgamecafe.net&blog=1

We also covered some of the high-buzz games of this Essen namely YUNNAN, MADEIRA, KEYFLOWER, RUSSIAN RAILROADS and BRUXELLES 1893.
