Title: BGC Boardgame Retreat 2011
Post by: jack208 on April 10, 2011, 05:00:18 am
Rite.. while June 4 looks like weeks away but time flies pretty fast. Let us start discussing this here; all are welcome to post, ask questions, provide suggestions etc.

Plan is tentatively to drop in to location morning of June 4 (Sat) which is our Agong's B'day so will be a public holiday for everyone. We aim to start the Day One gaming around 9-10 am and do a full day till 6pm. Break for dinner, then it's the start of the famous After-8 Gaming session where you get to sample games like 18xx, Dune, Diplomacy maybe even TI3?

Sunday we start again at 9 am (after breakfast) and game till 2-3pm. that'll conclude our one-and-half day of Retreat Gaming. Prizes will be there of course!

p/s I'm still way overdue with last year's event report. Hope to squeeze time in-between those Power Grid eventreps (http://"http://community.boardgamecafe.net/index.php?/topic/3833-bgc-power-grid-competition/") and OTK sessreps to get this completed so that those who did not attend last year's event have an idea of how it went. :P

You may want to start with reading Heng's recap of the 2010 Retreat

And there's also this 2006 report of the one we did at Awana Genting.

Sounds like great fun. Just wondering roughly how much would the cost be? :)

Has it always been "competition" style? Seems a bit stressful.. haha.

I think there should be a game where everyone can play - Wits and wagers teams, werewolf, etc. We can also come in costumes? (http://community.boardgamecafe.net/public/style_emoticons/default/emotion-4%20v000.gif)

Yes we shud whip out a werewolf session. We always wanted to do that but the After8 Gaming venue was not suitable (like OTK style). So hopefully this trip at PD allow us to do so.

As for "competition", it's called semi-competition. Pretty relax.. you basically move up-n-down the tables only and everyone gets to sample different games. We even give away prizes for those with the lowest score!! [dance3]

Average about rm150-200 (with t-shirt) but excluding accommodation. But participants get to buy a game from us at 40% discount so you kinda get a rebate there.

This time if we are doing it at PD, cost shud be lower.

kaz: in my experience, although it is competition style, it is VERY friendly, some more there are ladies too. so it's err... casual competition?

darn it guys, can't make it to this session. have fun!

Jokes aside, this looks very, VERY fun. Looking forward to more details.

Hi All,

 Standard Retreat Package

First, let’s look at the standard Retreat package

 -          RM160 for the Retreat fee which includes two days of gaming (in a meeting room setup), lunch & tea-breaks for both days, and a special BGC Retreat 2011 t-shirt

 -          RM70 for shared accommodation in a 2-bedroom apartment which can take 4 pax. Breakfast (Sun) included in the accommodation price

 -          So total package per person is RM230 (retreat + accommodation)

 -          Exclude travel arrangement to Tiara Beach Resort, Port Dickson and Dinner on Sat evening

To avoid logistics issue, we are strictly not having anyone exclude the accommodation component and choose their own accommodation etc. Best to get everyone IN the same location. Anyway we are passing out the accommodation at cost since Tiara (http://www.tbr.com.my/ (http://"http://www.tbr.com.my/")),  is charging us RM280 for the 2-bedroom apartment.

 -          Those who wish to stay in studio apartment (2 pax) will be paying RM90 per pax (since a studio costs rm180), so total package per person is RM250 (retreat + accommodation)

We are offering a 10% for those who came for last year’s retreat. The cost for them would be RM207/pax (for 2-bedroom apartment)

 Game Purchase Promo

All paying retreat participant will be able to buy one game (in stock) from us at 40% discount from retail price. Almost all games can be included in this package except those costing more than RM350 retail price (and there’s not many game in this category anyway). This offer expires 3 months after Retreat Date.

So far, this is the confirm list. Can I assume this for the accommodation arrangement?

 Apartment #1

 Teddy Pang       â€“ RM207

Lee Ching       â€“ RM207

Lee Kwang Seng   â€“ RM230

Lee Peng        â€“ RM230

Just a question: Will there still be a flea market / trade going on?

I can probably try to arrange a math trade of sorts via BGG.

Added Daren Tan to the list. Now we've the perfect setup; 4 tables x 4 players the best arrangement to do Boardgaming World Cafe style. [dance3]  Will initiate game planning and try to map game rule briefing for each session so that we'll have someone teaching the games at each table.

We can still accept more gamers - so if your frens are keen, ask them along - but we can now work with this 4 table-basis for planning purpose.

Added two more Serembanites - Swee Wan and her brother. We are now at 18 so can move on to game planning

- mix of old faves plus new arrivals

- we are likely going to set up over 4 tables of 4, 5, 4, 5 (18 pax); if we get one or two more registrations, we may need to set up 5 tables of four. Always better to set up 4-pax since there are more games that fit 4-players

- need to ensure we've at least one person able to teach the games planned for each session/table

Two more weeks!! [scarf]
