Let's talk Accommodation

At the moment, Kin Tick is reserving all rooms for us on 30/11 weekend. We'll need to revert to them soon on the actual mix we need so that we can close out the booking.

Let's get started on t-shirt design. A poll here so that we can gather feedback on choice of color?

oh yes.. will definitely have KANBAN on the table given how we enjoyed CO2 and Vinhos. Am sure Vital will be happy if he gets another good write-up about Kanban from our Retreat!

btw I've moved the accommodation discussion to the Payment/Admin thread. Let's start discussing there (instead of cluttering up this main thread which I would like to keep for gaming related discussions?). click here to follow the accommodation upgrade discussion.

24 pax werewolf! :D

If we count the four of us - not listed as gamers - then it's likely 28 pax Werewolves!! We certainly need to do this... maybe outside at the campfire place... with the forest noises around us, it can be eerie.

90% (of those voted) opted for collarless. Cool.. this will allow us more flexibility with the design (as a collar tee makes design more formal - and boring). Dominant colors are purple and yellow now! :)

Updated with details of the room type.

  • Stone House is equipped with air-con. Bali House is equipped with fan (it's very airy and cooling in Bali House)

  • There are only 2 bath rooms in Bali House (the Corner View type that we booked), 1 attached to one room, the other 1 will be shared by the other 2 rooms

  • Each bath room is come with only 2 towels. Same for Stone House, only 2 towels (though it's shared by 4 persons) so suggest they bring their own towel.

  • There is also kettle and basic toiletries in the room.

Since we'll be playing Essen released games, I'm up for anything for after 8pm seesion, so no complaint there :)

Hope to get my hands on as many games as possible, so that I can structure my buylist better. :P

Also, Jeff, Wai Yan and Kareem, if you guys need any help with anything (carrying games, reading rulebooks, etc), please let me know. I'm more than happy to give a hand, really.

Any idea if Emil or Ainul going to join us this time, outside the signed up list?

Cool, good to know he's joining.

Anyway, I know this will be finalized when the date draws nearer, but what's the gaming format like? I'm assuming it's contest oriented like the previous retreat, and not free/open gaming (i.e. you can't come and go as you please, except for after 8pm session), right?

EDITED

Title: BGC Boardgame Retreat 2013
Post by: jack208 on August 12, 2013, 03:36:01 am

Will be in same format as usual ie last year with a semi competitive mode. It's really more friendly than competitive except "competitive" means we are keeping scores from round to round - but not "competitive" as in our previous Power Grid tournament. :P

There won't be free open gaming and we do expect the gamers to sit thru all sessions - since if one or two gamers opted out of a game, it unbalances the player number and other planning. Which affects the experience for other gamers.

After8 is as usual free-as-you-go. Participants do not need even have to do any gaming if they are already exhausted after the days' gaming. :)

I really like the game format! It's competitive but the "points don't matter". Sort of at least. :P

Lets you play with many different people and at the same time keeps you on table with those that are able to keep up with the weight of games.

Post by: leoskyangel on August 13, 2013, 02:57:00 pm

Okay, sounds good to me!

I don't play games competitively, and that format should work for me. Just play normally and see how it goes! Maybe swoop for the loser's prize as I don't really win that often (at least based on experience). :p

Hoping to meet and play more with new people in the hobby!

I'm psyched already. Just look at the ESSEN '13 titles, I kept waiting for new rules or previews to come out.

Perfect! So many 4p games these few years.

Even the 5p games are usually very playable as 4p; and 4p games are good for Retreat due to timewise.

Bumping this thread up to buzz about the Retreat. Here's the booty list from our Essen trip. Obviously it won't be all new Essen games as we'll mix it up with some recent releases. Will be having preview of the Essen new games @ OTK next few Fridays. Feel free to drop by and learn the new Essen games to help you challenge for the summit!

Some mixed news on Madeira.

Hello,

thanks again for your preorder of Madeira.

We could start the shipment early next week and we would need the following information:

  1. PAYPAL: please send us the transaction number of the paypal payment

  2.
  3. PHONE NUMBER: please send us a phone number that we can write on the package

Meanwhile, please note that many units of the first batch we received have some small issues regarding the cutting of the punched board.

As you can see in the attachment, some tiles would need to be carefully removed from the punched board using a cutter in order to avoid the paper to shred.

We are really sorry for the inconvenience, we already talked to the printer and they said they will fix the problem starting from the next batch.

We therefore would like to know if you prefer the game to be shipped next week anyway or if you would prefer to wait until the next batch arrive (probably end of November).

In case you would like the game to be shipped next week, please note we could not bear the shipping costs for sending replacements for damages related to this issue.

Looking forward to hear from you

Best regards

Veronica/WYG

I replied for MADEIRA to be sent now (think the cutting is manageable) so kaz, you may opt for the 2nd batch. Hopefully send-now means the game should arrive for this Retreat. [party]

If you are preparing for your packing list, you should include as well:

1. Basic toiletries*

2. Mosquito repellent (especially for those who are keen to join late night gaming on Day One

* Bath towel will be provided by the orchard village

** Water tumbler might not be necessary because we will provide a bottle water for each and there is water cooler in the gaming area, where you can refill your water bottle there.

Will post up the details of the programme itinerary on FB soon..
