Initially it was supposed to be CBTL but they pulled out last minute so the new deal is with Starbucks now! Couldn't say I'm not happier since Starbucks is selecting two locations ie Times Square and Leisure Mall which are very convenient for me. Obviously the other 4 places eg 1U and Bangsar are equally hot-spots too.
KL Boardgames Meetup will be organizing more regular meetups at Starbucks.
Is there any good Starbucks location in Klang, Heng? Let me know and I can try to get their mgmt to consider that as the next locations to expand to.
Event report from Edwin on the Starbucks presscon for those who did not come for the event.
Spotted @ Starbucks! Thanks a million to all those who took time off their official commitments to come for today’s launch of the “Award winning games over Latte... only @ Starbucks†series! The media arrived as early as 200pm, and an hour later, they had entered a whole new world of award winning boardgames. Of course, the highlight of the launch was a demonstration of Settlers of Catan, and the announcement of the 2006 Malaysian Settlers Qualifiers, where Starbucks customers have a chance to win 4 seats in the Malaysian Finals on 29 July. Other goodies in store for Starbucks customers include a chance to win an award winning game (one will be given per store), which will be the various 2005 award winners:- Spiel Des Jahres: Niagara.- Deutscher SpielPreis: Louis XIV.- IGA: Ticket to Ride Europe.- Mensa: Ingenious. So please spread the word around, and pop by any one or more of the following outlets:- 1Utama Old Wing.- Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar.- Alpha Angle, Wangsa Maju.- Damansara Uptown, PJ. and check out one or more of the following games:- Tournament: Settlers of Catan (travel set).- For Kids: Chicken Cha Cha Cha.- For Pairs: Kahuna.- Card Lovers: Boomtown.- Dice Lovers: Heck Meck.- Brain Work-out: Various Mensa Select games. In the end, members of the media and Starbucks staff were already asking where they could buy these games! Spotted at Starbucks well after the launch were two hardcore gamers playing Bonaparte at Marengo, on a gameboard twice the size of the Starbucks coffee table... but of course, they didn’t seem to mind at all! At the same time, Kahuna and Heck Meck were in progress in the next table, fitting much better! Finally, hurray to Starbucks for taking on this project. It will definitely do a lot to bring new gamers into the hobby! Not to mention, its simply a GREAT PLACE TO GAME!
We've not schedule these into our KL Boardgames Meetup event list but the dates have been confirmed by Starbucks/PGI which means demo sessions would be available on the following dates.
If any of you are going there.. just chio us here and I'm sure some of us would be glad to meet-up for a game or two over Latte.
