First prize                                        : RM 7000

4th-5th                                            : RM 500x2

6th-10th                                          : RM 300x5

11th-15th                                       : RM 200x5

                Universiti Malaya, or UM, Malaysia's oldest university, is situated on a 750 acre (309 hectare) campus in the southwest of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. The University of Malaya derives its name from the term 'Malaya' as the country was then known. It was established in April 1949 in Singapore with the merger of the King Edward VII College of Medicine (founded in 1905) and Raffles College (founded in 1928).


                     For the first time, First Residential College or formally known as Asrama Tuanku Abdul Rahman (ASTAR), the oldest residential college in University of  Malaya with the cooperation of New Straits Times and under  the supervision of Mr. Ganesh  Asirvatham and Mr. Nik Zuraik will  be  organizing the  NST Astar  Scrabble Challenge International
. It will be held on the 29th and  30th of January 2009 in the  Auditorium Perdanasiswa, University of Malaya.   


                    Scrabble games or better known as English word games are popular  among both  students and adults because of its ability to train the players  to think  critically and act fast as well  as to practice a good command of  English.


                    This  time, the international  Scrabble  competition  aims  to  bring   together students from public as well as  private universities, colleges and schools  around  the  world, aged  from 18 to 25 years old  to enhance a healthy and  yet  challenging  competition. In doing so, students will be   encourage to interact with one  another  throughout  the competition. In  addition, it is also a world competition to strengthen the bonds between all public and private schools, colleges and universities around the world. 

      1)A short briefing and workshop will be held on  the 29th of January 2009. 

          2)The competition will start on the 29th of January 2009 at 8.30pm until 10.40pm on the 30th of January 2009.

        3)Accommodations and meals will be provided.

        4)Certificates of participation will be given to all contestants. 

        5)Participation fees is RM200 per team(2 person per team) while international students USD 70 per team(2 person per team).

        6)Closing date is on the 10th of January 2009.

       7)Places are limited so please register as soon as possible.

          ** All Malaysian participants must obtain their entry form from the New Straits Times.

2) 15 Dec 2008 - 17 Dec 2008

3) 20 Dec 2008 - 21 Dec 2008

Adui! Besarnye the writing. It's in the newspaper, so by now, those who reads the daily would know about it. However most of us who reads the papers are 'over the age limit' - too bad...

Opps...age limit huh? OK....I'll keep that in mind and bring it up to the organizers for the next scrabble competition. Thanks for the advice "C Mun".
