Will the event itinerary be too pack? I want to use any spare time to find any volunteer to teach/play with me three games:

- Battle Of Five Armies

- Level 7: Omega Protocol

- Bioshock Infinite: The Siege Of Colombia

The event itinerary is indeed very pack. We are not known for being "intense" without good reasons :)

Right from Day One at 9:00 am we kick off and its all games games games until 6 pm Day One where everyone takes dinner break, shower and then it's After-8 event (see next para). We resumed 9 am again on Day Two and it's games games games until we conclude the event at 4 pm Day Two.

After-8 is the free-n-easy time where folks can decide whether to sleep (what? you come all the way to sleep?), or walk around the beach or pick up any of the games we & the others bring to the event to play on your own free-bn-easy mode. Therefore you can also bring your own games (like the three mentioned above) and see if others want to play/join with you. However you need to note there'll be tons of Essen 2014 games in the event hall.... I think they might go for those games. Suggest you do that too since you'll get to testdrive some of the newer games to see if you like them.

+1 to what CK have said. Based on my limited one-retreat experience, after-8 gaming is where you want to give a spin on other Essen games that you haven't tried. Try and form a buy-list of Essen games and use after-8 session to try as many games as possible to turn it into a solid list.

Still there's no wrong in bringing your own games. If someone answers your call, then I'd love to see how the games are played.

Sorry guys but in the end I have to pull out. I'm hosting a boardgames sleepover for newbies and after much negotiations the only date available falls on the same weekend as the retreat. I tried pulling them for the retreat but they don't sound too keen. I've already planned and prepared too far to cancel. It's very disappointing but I had to chose =( Perhaps next year, with new gamers in tow.

Not a serious competition. There are points awarded for positions etc but it's semi-competitive since win or lose, you'll still get to change table and the chance to play with new gamers on other tables and new /different games each round.

The serious competitive feel is usually on Table #1 only... but then you need to be a seriously competitive player to remain in Table #1 anyway. The rest of them just enjoy the sessions flitting between Table #2 and #6 etc

Have you read our sessreps on our past Retreats?

btw Cham, the door gift is a special Essen 2014 dice. A collectible that we do not sell but bought direct for Retreat participants from Essen yearly. Last year's participants got Essen 2013 dice. :P

Every table plays the same games you mean? Else cannot compete fairly, right? And the game choices are fixed?
